We extend a warm welcome to all visitors and members and trust that you find our site informative.

The primary purpose of this site is to improve communcations amongst the members of the West Rand District, the Parent Support Association, the Scouters and most importantly the Scouts and Cubs of the West Rand District and their families. We are also aware of the many former members and friends, all over the planet that like to remain in touch with what is happening with Scouting on the West Rand.

What is the "West Rand"

The West Rand is the area to the Western side of Johannesburg, South Africa, so named as being the Western side of the WitWatersRand ridge. The area developed from the late 1800's from being the "wealthy" goldfields of South Africa and has today become the most densely populated area in the country and also the industrial hub of Southern Africa.

As a Scout District, the "West Rand" effectively covers the entire Western section of the South African province of Gauteng,  , however currently all the active groups are situated with the Roodepoort municipal area (Roodepoort is part of the greater Johannesburg metro). The town of Krugersdorp (Mogale City) , Randfontein, Westonarea, and Carletonville would also form part of the district if groups operated within those towns.

The West Rand district as it is now known, was re-formed in 2001 when the "Near West Rand" and "Far West Rand" districts merged.
